I love shooting headshots for comedians! It’s outrageous fun to spend time with someone whose job it is to see things from a fresh perspective, and it boosts the creativity quotient in the shoot to red line levels! I like to approach the session from two perspectives, first – capture an image that resonates with their stage persona and looks great, and second – shoot a concept shot that plays off of their particular brand of humor. Here’s an example from a recent session with the amazing Brian Regan, who is currently on a nationwide tour and has a killer special recently released on Netflix, Nunchucks and Flamethrowers. Shooting Brian was really all about giving him space to play and keeping up :).
Next are images from our shoot with Will Julian, a fresh face on the stand-up scene with a successful career as a writer.
After we got Will’s handsome, energetic smile, I handed him a microphone and asked him to use it in a shot that expressed how he feels about doing stand-up. The result was revealing and classic!
And here’s Gary Valentine, comedian and actor (King of Queens, Paul Blart: Mall Cop). I love Gary’s working man persona!
Check back soon, there are more stories coming about my long term love affair with shooting comedians!
